Michael Sher is the Outside General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of ClaimShield. Michael was an insurance industry executive and senior in-house counsel for more than 23 years before opening a private corporate, insurance, and reinsurance practice in 2024. A former Ropes & Gray lawyer, Michael most recently served as Senior VP and Deputy General Counsel of MAPFRE’s U.S. division, where he was responsible for the corporate transactional and related regulatory practice. He served in a number of business roles at MAPFRE with P&L responsibility, including as CEO of Road America, MAPFRE’s North American roadside assistance business, and as head of the New York P&C Region. Prior to joining MAPFRE, Michael served in leadership roles at the Plymouth Rock group of companies, including as Director of Business Development and Counsel to the CEO of Plymouth Rock Assurance Company, and as Interim CEO of the Encharter Group of independent insurance agencies. Michael is a graduate of Amherst College and Georgetown University Law Center, which he attended while working as a legislative assistant to U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy of Vermont for finance, trade, banking, tax, and business development.
